The focus of the ISLA Research Group´s research activities currently lies on Malaria and Tuberculosis research.

Both projects consist of two phases:

In the in- vitro- Phase, different photosensitizers are tested regarding their abilities to kill parasites and bacteria. At the same time, appropriate laserlight sources need to be identified, as the light´s intensity and wave length has to be adjusted to the respective photosensitizers.

In the in- vivo- Phase, first pilot trials will be conducted in order to study the effectiveness of the treatment.
